INDIAN ARMY CONDUCTED MEDICAL AND VETERINARY CAMP FOR GUJJAR AND BAKKARWALS AT NAGNI MAIDAN




Doda,05: In a noble gesture under Operation Sadbhavana, the Indian Army conducted a comprehensive Medical and Veterinary Camp at Bharat, Doda on 05 Jun 2025. The initiative was aimed at addressing the pressing healthcare and veterinary needs of the Gujjar and Bakkarwal communities residing in the remote and rugged terrains of Nagni Maidan, Bharat, Doda and where access to medical infrastructure remains limited due to poor road connectivity, water scarcity and developmental constraints.
The camp was spearheaded by dedicated Army Medical Officers along with esteemed doctors and Veterinary professionals from the Government hospitals. A range of medical services including general health screening, pediatric care, women’s health consultations and medicine distribution were rendered to the locals. Special attention was given to mothers and children, with free medical aid provided to ensure their well being.
Simultaneously, a veterinary drive was conducted to cater to the livestock of the nomadic Gujjars and Bakkarwals, which are an integral part of their livelihood. Numerous animals including cows, sheep, horses, mules, goats, and buffaloes were examined and treated by skilled veterinary personnel. A total of 203 patients including 103 males, 58 females and 42 children were provided medical care by the doctors. Total 90 animals including cows, sheep, horses, mules, goats and buffaloes were screened and provided free medical treatment. 09 x Media Persons, 04 x Civil dignatries, 03 x Doctors from Govt Medical College and 06 x staff including Veterinary Doctors from District Sheep and Animal Husbandry department, Doda also took part in the said event.
The heartfelt gratitude expressed by the local populace stood as a testament to the Indian Army’s unwavering dedication to serving those in the farthest corners of the nation. This holistic medical outreach not only brought healing and care but also strengthened the bridge of trust between the Army and the people it so earnestly protects.
