Harry Bolz a.k.a. Chief Twit a.k.a. Elon Musk, at the helm of Twitter, has announced that Subscriptions are now enabled on the platform. Earlier, Musk had started revenue sharing with ads displayed in-thread. However, the user had to be subscribed to Twitter Blue to receive the benefits.
Earlier today, Musk announced that subscriptions will work for longform content, images, and videos posted on Twitter. Musk, initially announced that the platform’s “For you” timeline would only promote tweets from users who pay an £8 monthly subscription fee. However, following backlash, Musk swiftly reversed course, ensuring that the “For you” timeline would no longer be limited to paid accounts.
Currently, Twitter offers very limited monetization options for creators compared to its competitors like YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook. However, this is a start.
