Doda, 07-July:Vikram Batra was an officer in the Indian Army who served during the Kargil War in 1999. He was born on September 9, 1974, in Palampur, Himachal Pradesh, India. Vikram Batra joined the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in 1996 and was commissioned into the Indian Army’s 13th Battalion, Jammu & Kashmir Rifles.

During the Kargil War, Lieutenant Vikram Batra played a significant role in the recapture of strategic positions from Pakistani intruders in the Dras sector. He was involved in several successful operations, including the capture of Point 5140, which was nicknamed “Tiger Hill.” It was during the capture of Point 5140 that Vikram Batra famously exclaimed, “Yeh dil maange more!” (“This heart asks for more!”), which became a popular catchphrase in India.

Vikram Batra’s bravery and leadership during the war earned him the nickname “Sher Shah” (Lion King). On July 7, 1999, during the final stages of the war, he was tragically killed in action while trying to rescue an injured officer during the Battle of Point 4875.
